To 1.2 metres . A slender shark with spots and small, flat crushing teeth, it is widespread in our waters as well as cooler Australian seas. It is found on sedimentary bottoms of only a few metres down to depths of about two hundred metres. Crabs, shrimps and shellfish are commonly taken as food. The back is bronze with white spots, the undersurface white. The relatively large dorsal fins without spines, among other features, distinguish this species from the spiny dogfishes. Other names in use include smooth hound and gummy. A fine eating fish, this species is sometimes sold under the name of lemonfish . A popular fish with some surfcasters who use crabs for baits when targetting this species
